PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : University Topples No. 4 Woodbridge

Nicole Shammas hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give University a 2-1 victory over Woodbridge in a Sea View League softball game Tuesday at University High.
University (15-10, 5-3) is unranked and Woodbridge (24-4, 8-1) is the fourth-ranked team in the county. The victory moved the Trojans into sole possession of third place and ended an 18-game winning streak for Woodbridge.
Carrie Kirk had a bloop single to center that scored Heather Campbell from third to give University a 1-0 lead in the first. Trojan pitcher Michele Ponce (12-5) allowed only five hits and a run en route to the victory.
Alison Johnsen grounded into a fielder’s choice to drive in Lisa Weaver with Woodbridge’s run in the fifth.
In the Arrowhead League:
Calvary Chapel 12, Southern California Christian 0 (5, mercy rule)--Kim Schroy threw her third no-hitter in a row, striking out 12 for visiting Calvary Chapel (14-7, 9-0). It was Schroy’s sixth no-hitter of the season.
In the Angelus League:
Mater Dei 5, Santa Margarita 0--Jennifer Clark pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven for the visiting Monarchs (16-1-1, 7-0), the top-ranked team in Orange County. Jennifer Cline had three hits, including a triple, and three runs batted in. Clark added two hits and two RBIs.
Rosary 5, Bishop Amat 1--Kristina Luna was two for three with an RBI for host Rosary (11-8, 5-3).
In the Empire League:
Cypress 1, Los Alamitos 0--Monica Jimenez (18-4) tossed a one-hitter and drove in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh for host Cypress (20-4, 7-2).
El Dorado 6, Esperanza 0--Freshman Kelli Tom (5-2) pitched a four-hitter and Traci Vargas hit a two-run homer to lead El Dorado (13-10, 4-5). Esperanza is 4-17, 1-8.
In the Freeway League:
Troy 1, Fullerton 0--Jennifer Jessen threw a no-hitter and drove in the winning run with the game’s only hit for Troy (11-10, 2-7). Jessen struck out three and walked one, and doubled in the fourth to drive in Kelly Inman with the winning run.
La Habra 4, Sunny Hills 0--Pam Dornik had two hits and drove in a run for La Habra (21-2, 9-0), which clinched the league title.
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 4, Garden Grove 0--Leslie Mascarenas and Jennifer Surface had RBI singles in the first, and the host Mariners (18-5-1, 11-2) clinched a tie for the league title. Tina Verehen had two hits for Garden Grove (16-8-1, 9-3-1).
Kennedy 13, Santiago 0 (5, mercy rule)--Joy Hannifin hit a three-run home run in the first and Nicole Paloney pitched a no-hitter with five strikeouts for host Kennedy (18-6, 10-3).
Los Amigos 2, Rancho Alamitos 1--Amanda Sexton hit a two-run double for Los Amigos (5-13, 4-9).
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 29, Orange Lutheran 1 (5, mercy rule)--Kim Hagaman hit a grand slam to highlight a 19-run fifth inning for visiting Whittier Christian (14-3, 9-2).
In the Orange League:
Western 12, Magnolia 0--Sonya Fellows was three for four with a home run and four RBIs for host Western (14-8, 9-0), which clinched at least a share of the league title.
Brea-Olinda 4, Valencia 1--Andrea Schutte tossed a three-hitter over six innings and hit a solo home run in the sixth for visiting Brea (17-5, 8-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 18, Estancia 0--Theresa Summa and April Kargel each had three hits for visiting Trabuco Hills (17-9, 7-2).
Laguna Hills 12, Costa Mesa 0--Sauci Hayes was two for four with a triple, three RBIs and two runs for host Laguna Hills (15-7-1, 9-0), which clinched its second consecutive league title.
In the South Coast League:
El Toro 2, San Clemente 0--Jodi Smith struck out seven and Jennifer Claridge had an RBI single in the sixth to score the winning run for El Toro (20-8-1, 9-0).
Irvine 2, Capistrano Valley 0--Rebecca Smith pitched a four-hitter and Alleah Poulson had two hits for visiting Irvine (13-8, 5-4). Daniela Hugelshofer had two hits for Capistrano Valley (10-10-2, 5-4).
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 9, Edison 0--Danelle Lovetro had four hits and one RBI for Fountain Valley (17-4, 11-0). Teammates Jode Bixler and Lynea Backlund each had two RBIs. Edison is 1-10 in league.
Ocean View 10, Santa Ana 0 (6, mercy rule)--Tracy Wilkinson was two for three with four RBIs and Kathy Ponce threw a one-hitter for host Ocean View (13-11, 7-4).
