Long Beach : State of Emergency Ends; Help Offered to Businesses

Share

Long Beach officials on Tuesday lifted the state of emergency declared after last week’s riots and continued to offer assistance in cleaning up and rebuilding city businesses.

The city will allow trailers to be put up temporarily as businesses are rebuilt, and the shops may expand as much as 10% without providing additional parking spaces, the Long Beach City Council decided.

The city’s Redevelopment Agency will use more than $430,000 helping workers clean up about 24 damaged sites.

City workers also are helping staff the emergency center set up at the California Recreation Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Business owners may apply for federal loans there and file unemployment insurance claims. State and county assistance also is available.
