Richard Derr; Veteran Film, TV, Stage Actor
Richard Derr, co-star of the futuristic “When Worlds Collide” in 1951 and a veteran actor whose credits ranged from Broadway plays to television commercials, has died in a Santa Monica hospital of heart failure.
His longtime friend, Lee Hale, said Monday that Derr, a native of Norristown, Pa., was 74 when he died Friday.
Although he starred in few films, Derr was featured in many, among them “Ten Gentlemen From West Point,” “Tonight We Raid Calais,” “The Secret Heart,” “Joan of Arc,” “The Drowning Pool,” “American Gigolo” and “Firefox.”
He also appeared on Broadway in “Dial M for Murder,” the musical “Plain and Fancy,” “Grand Tour” and “The Traitor.”
His TV credits included the feature film “SST--Death Flight” and regular appearances on such early dramatic programs as “Studio One,” “Robert Montgomery Presents,” “Circle Theatre,” “Philco Theatre” and others.
Most recently, Hale said, Derr had been working as a real estate agent in Beverly Hills.
