Ellen W. Brooks; Author of Children’s Books

Ellen W. Brooks, 84, who under the pen name Ellen Wales Walpole wrote children’s books and published the Golden Dictionary for children in 1944. She also wrote a children’s column, “Ask Andy,” which ran for 40 years in The Times and was syndicated to other newspapers. A graduate of Cambridge University, she founded preschools in England and Canada before moving to New York City, where she taught elementary school before taking up writing full time. In Palm Springs on April 18.
