SANTA ANA : Police Dept. Sergeants to Be Honored

Share

A trio of Police Department sergeants will receive honors for their exemplary service from two state peace officer associations this week.

The sergeants, Phillip Archer, Irma Vasquez and Edward Andrade, will get their awards at the California Peace Officers Assn. convention in Palm Springs. Vasquez will be honored by the Women’s Peace Officers Assn. today and on Thursday Archer and Andrade will receive two of the six awards given statewide this year by the CPOA.

Archer’s merit award recognizes his work in implementing problem-oriented policing, as well as his efforts in developing new bike patrols, associations for merchants and business owners, and a special holiday enforcement program.

Andrade will be commended for his work in the narcotics unit, where he oversaw a team of investigators responsible for seizing more than $1 million in illegal drugs, and his involvement in several “zero tolerance” and “buyer beware” programs with the FBI and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.

Vasquez will receive a professional achievement award for her performance in the juvenile, narcotics and homicide divisions. She has received several commendations from the department, including one for her involvement in rescuing a kidnap victim.

Vasquez is the Santa Ana department’s first Latina sergeant, and she has co-authored a book on women in law enforcement.
