Twelve high school students from Orange County will receive California Arts Scholars awards May 29 at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. El Modena High in Orange produced three winners, all in visual arts: Andrew Young, Carlos Lopez and Maria Alvarez. Other winners were from Los Alamitos High (Brandi Jamo and Davina Miranda, both in dance); Westminster High in Huntington Beach (Jose Tapia in visual arts and Sharon Majer in creative writing); Katella High in Anaheim (Josanna Schimke in visual arts); Garden Grove High (Laura Bass in visual arts); Dana Hills High in Dana Point (Daniel Moody in music composition); El Dorado High in Placentia (Laura Crawford in dance), and Valley High in Santa Ana (Ramiro Pantoia in animation). The winners will join other aspiring dancers, visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, actors and writers from throughout the state at the California State Summer School for the Arts this summer at Mills College in Oakland.
