BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Blyleven Feeling Fine the Day After

Share

Bert Blyleven said he had no stiffness in his shoulder Wednesday, a day after his first outing since undergoing rotator cuff surgery. Blyleven, who gave up three runs to the Yankees in six innings Tuesday, isn’t scheduled to start again until May 30. In the interim, he might appear in relief.

“That’s a good role for me at this point, as long as they give me an hour to get ready,” he said.

Blyleven, 41, said he was delighted by messages he received congratulating him on his comeback. In return, he called team orthopedist Lewis Yocum, who performed the operation and the arthroscopic surgery that preceded it. “I had to thank him because he’s the one who made it possible,” Blyleven said.

Alvin Davis’ pinch-double in the eighth was his fourth pinch-hit in five tries this season and 11th in 31 at-bats as a pinch-hitter, a .355 average. . . . After realizing TV cameras spied him watching from the dugout after he was ejected Tuesday night, Angel Manager Buck Rodgers said he will be more careful if he’s ejected again. “I average a couple of times a year,” he said. “I wasn’t tossed last year because I was more observing. I was learning which umpires you can argue with and which you can’t.”
