Ron Rothstein was named to replace Chuck Daly as coach of the Detroit Pistons, inheriting a team in turmoil.
Dennis Rodman, the league’s rebounding champion, has threatened to refuse to play for Rothstein. Rodman still hasn’t gotten over the loss of Daly, who resigned two weeks ago. Rodman apparently believes Daly, who gave him a chance to star in the NBA when nearly everyone else passed him over, was undermined by the presence of Rothstein on the Pistons’ TV broadcast team this season.
“I won’t play if Chuck ain’t the coach,” Rodman said.
