SANTA ANA : Council Approves Hike in Water Rate

Share

The average monthly residential water bill is scheduled to increase by $1.02 beginning July 1, after approval by the City Council this week.

City officials said the rate increase is needed to offset charges assessed to the city by the Metropolitan Water District, the Orange County Water District and Southern California Edison Co. to transport Santa Ana’s water supply.

The increased charges by the water districts will total $1.1 million next year, according to a staff report presented to the council during its regular meeting Monday.

But under questioning by Councilman Richards L. Norton, the city staff confirmed that the general fund will benefit because the city’s 5% utility tax will be applied to the rate increase.
