COUNTYWIDE : Drunk Driving Arrests Rise 17%
Arrests in Ventura County for drunk driving increased during the Memorial Day weekend for the third straight year, a CHP spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Forty-nine drivers were arrested between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday on suspicion of drunk driving, a 17% increase over the total of 42 arrests last year, said Staci Morse, a CHP public information officer.
It was the second consecutive year that Memorial Day weekend drunk driving arrests rose by 17%, Morse said. The increase may reflect the use of a lower level of blood alcohol to determine intoxication, she said.
The level at which a driver is presumed to be impaired was lowered for 1991 to 0.08% from 0.10%, Morse said.
