San Diego police late Wednesday were investigating the fatal shooting of an East San Diego restaurant owner who was killed at his business.

As the restaurant owner, Binh Lu, 42, saw the men and attempted to close a metal gate across the door to lock them out, one of the men fired a shot that hit Lu in the neck, police said.

The men then fled toward Colinas Park, police said.

A spokesman for the county medical examiner’s office said Lu died at the scene before authorities arrived.

The wife and daughter of Lu, who lived in the 3700 block of Euclid Ave., were in the restaurant at the time of the shooting, police said.
