PALMDALE : Councilman to Take Water Agency Post

Palmdale City Councilman David Myers will take on the newly created position of business manager for the Palmdale Water District beginning June 8.

The water agency has tripled in size in the past seven years and now serves about 20,000 residences. The new position was created to better serve its customers, said Hal Fones, the district’s general manager.

Myers, 33, will leave his job as director of major gifts for the United Cerebral Palsy/Spastic Children’s Foundation in the San Fernando Valley on June 5.

Myers was elected to the Palmdale City Council in April, and had previously served on the Planning Commission nearly two years.

The council has authority over some issues that affect the water district, such as zoning decisions on its property. Myers said he checked with the city attorney before taking the position, and was told that taking the job would not violate conflict of interest laws. He was told the water agency is an employer much like any other business, but he will have to abstain from voting on issues that affect it, Myers said.
