BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Rodgers, in Pain, to Remain in Hospital

Share

Angel Manager Buck Rodgers had a new cast put on his surgically repaired right elbow Friday and was in sufficient pain to convince doctors to keep him at Centinela Hospital through the weekend and probably until Tuesday.

Rodgers, who has been upgraded to good condition, has begun rehabilitation exercises. However, his mobility is severely limited because of the shattered right elbow and fractured left knee he suffered in the May 21 bus accident that injured 12 members of the Angels’ traveling party as they rode from New York to Baltimore.

Interim manager John Wathan said he and Rodgers discussed Thursday’s roster move--placing Junior Felix on the 15-day disabled list and activating Lance Parrish from the DL--but said Rodgers was too uncomfortable to talk for long. Having his surgical dressings and cast changed increased his pain. “He wasn’t a happy camper,” Wathan said.

Shortstop Gary DiSarcina sat out Friday night’s game because of a bruised left foot, sustained Thursday when he fouled a ball off the inside of the foot for the third time in a week. X-rays showed no breaks.
