Endorsement for District Attorney

Share

Once again The Times has blundered in endorsing Norris for district attorney for all the wrong reasons. It goes without saying that Norris is a hard and effective prosecutor as evidenced by his peers in granting him the “prosecutor of the year” award. However, Norris has yet to demonstrate his administrative and leadership skills that are ever so important and lacking in the current district attorney’s office. In the recent past Norris has twice been offered and turned down an administrative assignment, where he could have either honed or developed his managerial and leadership skills.

What The Times fails to recognize is that Los Angeles County needs a district attorney who is not only an astute prosecutor, but who is administratively sound and whose leadership and managerial qualities are proven. Gil Garcetti has all those qualities. In fact Garcetti was the No. 2 man in the D.A.’s office until Reiner realized the liability that Garcetti posed to his political longevity as the district attorney.

The Latin American Law Enforcement Assn. feels very strongly that the person who can most effectively represent all the communities of Los Angeles County as district attorney is Garcetti.
