Ernest Townsend has been appointed to the newly created position of president of Dole Fresh Fruit & Vegetables Co., a unit of Westlake Village-based Dole Food Co.

Townsend will have responsibility for Dole’s combined fresh fruit and fresh vegetables operations.

Previously, Townsend was president and chief executive of All-American Gourmet, a subsidiary of Kraft/General Foods, which is a subsidiary of the Philip Morris Cos.
