The City Council on Tuesday approved an 8.7% rate increase affecting the water department’s 12,814 customers beginning July 1.
The additional revenue will be used for maintenance of the city’s water system.
Residents will pay 78 cents, up from 72 cents, per 748 gallons of water. The hike includes a $5 base service rate, which increased 50 cents.
An average user’s water bill for each two-month billing period will increase from $36.18 to $39.32.
For 13 customers who live outside the city, the base water rate will be $6, instead of $5.25, and $1.17 per 748 gallons.
