In 1965, Lou Boyar, the president of Metropolitan Development Corp., donated more than two acres of his property to Los Angeles in honor of his late wife, Mae Boyar. Now, for nearly 30 years, the park has been enjoyed by neighborhood children in the area.
“In some cases we have people who played at this park when they were children and now they bring their own children here,” said one maintenance worker at Mae Boyar Park. “It is quiet, and a safe place for children.”
In the evenings and on weekends, the park is a popular place for basketball players looking for a pick-up game. The sides of the newly paved court are often lined with players watching a game and waiting to get some playing time.
Although the play equipment is not the newly updated orange and blue apparatus, it is safe and maintained regularly. Mae Boyar Park also has a larger sand area than some of the newer parks.
