BUENA PARK : Council OKs Plan to Improve Peak Park

Share

The City Council has approved a plan to improve William Peak Park with new ball fields, restrooms, a play area and a picnic shelter. The project, which is estimated at $450,000, will complete the city’s first phase in a $1-million park improvement plan.

Construction will close sections of the park from August to October, but city officials hope to have the project completed by the start of the historic Silverado Days in late October, said Wes Morgan, director of recreation, parks and community services.

Depending on how much the project costs, the city may decide to start the second phase of park improvements, which will include construction of a concession stand and additional parking at Peak Park, 7225 El Dorado Drive, Morgan said.

The $1-million, two-year park plan was funded by state and county grants and matching funds from the city.

Crews have installed new playground equipment at Larwin Park, 6150 Ball Road; San Marino Park, 6200 San Rolando Circle; John Beat Park, 6660 Mt. Shasta Circle, and Smith-Murphy Park, 5290 Cameron Drive. The city has also installed restrooms at two other parks and basketball courts at another, Morgan said.

Most of the improvement plans have been designated for 30-year-old Peak Park, which has not been improved in 20 years, Morgan said.
