Dog Freed After Being Trapped for 14 Hours
Firefighters punched a hole through a 14-inch concrete block wall Sunday to free an 11-year-old Siberian husky that had been trapped for nearly 14 hours in Lomita, authorities said.
About 12 Los Angeles County firefighters tried several techniques to free the animal after they were called to Ebony Lane and West Lomita Boulevard at 4:35 p.m., where the dog was trapped between the 14-inch wall and a 17-inch wall, firefighters said.
“Rescue workers tried to use foam, but the dog was wedged in too tight,” said spokesman Stephen Weston. “It took some more digging after they went through the wall to totally free the dog.”
Rescue workers gave the dog water to prevent it from becoming dehydrated during the rescue. When it was freed just before 10 p.m., the animal appeared exhausted, firefighters said. Animal control officers gave it more water, and its owner took it to a vet for observation, rescuers said.
Firefighters have not determined how the dog became trapped at about 8 a.m.
