BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Harvey Goes on 15-Day Disabled List

After throwing on the sideline Sunday, Bryan Harvey was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of continued discomfort in his right elbow.

Harvey, who has struggled in his last eight appearances, said he felt the same ache in his elbow Sunday while trying to throw his forkball as he did Saturday, when he blew a save in the Angels’ 4-3 loss to the Brewers.

Joe Grahe was recalled from triple-A Edmonton and was scheduled to meet the team today in Chicago. Grahe, who started the season with the Angels and was optioned to Edmonton May 14, was 1-0 for the Trappers with a 3.20 earned-run average in three starts.

“I tried to fight through it. I tried and tried and tried, but the way I’ve been pitching lately, I’ve been hurting the team worse by trying to pitch through it,” said Harvey, who has never been on the disabled list before. “It ain’t like it’s killing me to pitch. I can’t get (the arm) out there to get the ball down. My fastball’s still pretty good, but it’s hard to be a one-pitch pitcher in this league.”

Without Harvey, interim manager John Wathan said he would use Mark Eichhorn and Steve Frey as his closers. “It doesn’t get any better,” Wathan said gloomily.

Lance Parrish, whose right thumbnail was bent back to the point of breaking when he was hit with a pitch as he swung, said doctors told him he probably wouldn’t be able to play for a week. However, he said he would try to play if the finger isn’t too tender. “It’s up to me,” he said.

With a single and a double Sunday, Milwaukee’s Robin Yount got five hits against the Angels in three games and moved into 23rd place on the career hits list with 2,928. . . . As expected, Bobby Rose was assigned to Class-A Palm Springs on a 20-day rehabilitation assignment. That will start today. . . . Gary Gaetti said his inflamed left elbow had improved, but said he wouldn’t know the extent of his improvement until he plays. “The plan is for me to take (batting practice) to test it,” he said. Gaetti hasn’t played since he was taken out of Wednesday’s game in the seventh inning.
