OXNARD : Hit-and-Run Killer Still Unidentified

Share

Oxnard police were still trying Monday to identify a driver who fled on foot after his car hit and killed a pedestrian crossing a street in the neighborhood of La Colonia.

The driver abandoned the white and blue Ford Thunderbird after striking 22-year-old Oxnard resident Miguel Aburto Visoso late Saturday, but the driver was not the registered owner of the car, traffic investigator Humberto Jimenez said.

The registered owner left the car to his ex-wife, and the ex-wife then sold it without completing the paperwork to legally transfer ownership, Jimenez said.

“We’re still trying to figure out who was the driver,” he said.

The Police Department is checking out several tips received from informants on the identity of the driver, Jimenez said. The dead man’s brother, who witnessed the accident, will help police make a positive identification when the driver is found, he said.

Visoso was pronounced dead shortly after the 9:15 p.m. accident, which occurred as the man attempted to cross East 5th Street near Mountain View Avenue, officials said.
