Southwest Chamber Music Society Season

Composers, singers and 12 musicians will be among guest artists in the 1992-93 season beginning Sept. 17 of the Southwest Chamber Music Society, announced this week.

The Society will present 18 performances of nine programs in two locations--Chapman University and Pasadena Presbyterian Church--as well as four special events in various venues through June 17 and 18, 1993.

Composers Alexander Goehr, Mel Powell, Mark Waldrep and Charles Wuorinen will visit the series, as will singers Phyllis Bryn-Julson, Lucy Shelton and Dana Marsh, lutenist James Tyler and conductor Oliver Knussen.

The performing ensemble for the 1992-93 season: violinists Peter Marsh and Sheryl Staples, violist Jan Karlin, cellist Roger Lebow, bassist Paul Zibits, flutist Dorothy Stone, oboist Stuart Horn, clarinetist David Howard, bassoonist Leslie Lashinsky, hornist Jeff von der Schmidt and pianists Gloria Cheng and Leonard Stein.

After a sold-out season at the Pasadena Library, the Society has moved its San Gabriel Valley concerts to the larger auditorium at Pasadena Presbyterian Church at 585 E. Colorado Blvd. Its Orange County location, in Salmon Recital Hall at Chapman University in Orange, remains the same.

Among special events are a two-day residency at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite National Park, Oct. 3 and 4; a New Year’s Eve Benefit, Dec. 31, and Arroyo Seco Day at the Southwest Museum, May 16.
