Embattled National Hockey League President John Ziegler is expected to announce Friday that he will resign his position, effective before the start of next season, the Washington Post reported.
Ziegler, 58, has been in office since 1977 and has survived several attempted coups. But after the league went through its 75th anniversary season with a U.S. television contract that provided little exposure and minuscule money, then endured the first player strike in its history, a majority of owners felt it was time for new leadership.
