STYLE : LOOKS : A Face for Summer

Share

When summer comes, makeup goes casual. This year, however, there’s an undercurrent of glamour to the season’s look.

The big attention-getters are thin, arched eyebrows. Unlike the big, bushy caterpillar brows of the past decade, they open up the eye area. Make them a shade or two darker than hair with a brow pencil or shadow--or consider dyeing them.

Liquid eyeliner disappears for summer. Instead, line the upper lid with a dark pencil such as Estee Lauder’s Signature Automatic Pencil in Seal Brown. Smudge on shadow in a similar color, then follow with a lighter color a little higher. At the crease, return to the darker shade. Finish with soft white shadow on the brow bone.

Skip foundation and try a tinted moisturizer such as Lancome’s Imanance, which allows skin to breathe, comes in six shades and has an SPF of 8. Because tan is out, dab on blush, starting at the apples of the cheeks, working upward to the hairline, then around the temples to the forehead. Stick with brown tones such as Prescriptives’ Suncolor in Warm, Warmer or Warmest.

A dark, matte lipstick is too heavy this time of year. More appropriate is a shade lighter than natural such as Elizabeth Arden’s Lip Spa in Dusk or one with a slight gloss such as Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Sugarstick.
