ANTELOPE VALLEY : County to Keep Eye on School District

Share

Los Angeles County education officials will continue to oversee the finances of the deficit-ridden Antelope Valley Union High School District, reserving the right to overrule its school board, despite approving the district’s fiscal recovery plan this week.

In a letter released Thursday, the county Office of Education told district officials that they will remain under county scrutiny “until notified otherwise” because employee salary cuts and other steps to recover from a $12.4-million deficit have yet to be finalized.

“The district’s overall plan, while adhering to the basic guidelines established by the county office, still leaves areas of concern that must be addressed immediately,” wrote county Assistant Supt. Calvin Hall. In particular, he cited a pending 7% pay cut for all district employees.
