BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Howe Determines Vincent Meeting
Steve Howe will get a chance to plead his case to Fay Vincent before the commissioner decides on the length of the New York Yankee relief pitcher’s latest drug-related suspension.
Howe was suspended last week after pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to possess one gram of cocaine. The pitcher appealed the suspension through the union, as provided in the collective bargaining agreement. The appeal was presented before arbitrator George Nicolau, who asked the commissioner to define the length of the suspension.
