COUNTYWIDE : Marines Host Forum on Toxic Cleanup
The El Toro Marine Corps Air Station will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to noon today to discuss efforts to locate and remove toxic wastes in the soil and ground water at the base.
Representatives from the Marine Corps and environmental regulatory agencies will give a short summary of the environmental activities planned at the base and field questions from the public.
Exhibits will feature the equipment being used to drill and test the soil and to protect workers. The public should enter the base off Irvine Boulevard at Desert Storm near Gate 2.
Officials held a similar presentation Friday for Marines who work or are stationed on the base.
The base is included on the nation’s Superfund list of toxic waste sites.
