COUNTYWIDE : Alcohol-, Drug-Free Party to Be Held
A group of county organizations are sponsoring an all-day, alcohol- and drug-free beach party today for local youth at the Oxnard State Beach Park on Harbor Boulevard, organizers said.
Sponsors of the “Splash, Smash and Rock Fest” hope that the event will show local youth that they can have fun without alcohol, said Sonja Remmen, a counselor with Youths OK, a Ventura County outreach program.
The festival will feature live music, sports, picnic games, such as a water balloon toss, and prize drawings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Remmen said.
A popular local band, The End, will also perform, she said.
“This event is being held to promote a healthy society and encourage activities free from alcohol and other drugs,” Remmen said.
The beach party is co-sponsored by groups including the Ventura County superintendent of schools, the County Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, several Ventura County real estate agencies and Friday Night Live, another alcohol-free program for high school-age youth.
