A look inside Hollywood and the movies. : GENRE BENDING : It Takes Three to . . . You Know

It used to be that the standard Hollywood romance went like this: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back.

These days, the threesome’s the thing.

How else to account for the plethora of movies made or on tap about multiple lovers?

There’s the one about the boy who falls for the girl who’s already fallen for another girl (Carolco’s “Basic Instinct”), boy offers girl to another boy for the night (Castle Rock’s “Honeymoon in Vegas”), boy offers girl to another boy for a fee (Paramount’s “Indecent Proposal”), boy woos girl away from another girl (New Line’s “Three of Hearts”), girl (as psychiatrist) and girl (as patient) have simultaneous affairs with the same boy (Paramount’s “Whispers in the Dark”) and, expected to be announced soon, girl falls for two boys, one of whom is a murderer (Paramount’s “Sliver”).

If that doesn’t tickle your kinky bone, coming this Christmas: two boys and two girls swapping married partners, from, of all people, Disney/Hollywood Pictures. The title, aptly, is “Consenting Adults.”
