Three Santa Paula men were in custody Sunday after a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy matched their car with the description of one used in an armed robbery at a Fillmore doughnut shop, authorities said.
Jaime Arana, 18, David Arana, 19, and Daniel Moreno, 21, were apprehended late Saturday evening in Santa Paula after deputy John McGraw noticed that their car matched witnesses’ descriptions of the getaway vehicle used in the robbery of Angel’s Donuts, Detective Will Hammer said.
Witnesses had told police that two men entered the doughnut shop on Ventura Street in Fillmore about 10:45 p.m. and demanded money at gunpoint, Hammer said.
The pair was then seen leaving the area in a blue car driven by a third man, Hammer said.
McGraw was on patrol in the Santa Paula area when he stopped the car at the intersection of California 126 and Hallock Road, Hammer said.
Further investigation uncovered a handgun and an undisclosed amount of cash in the vehicle, and the three men were taken into custody, Hammer said.
They were booked into Ventura County Jail, and each is being held on $20,000 bail, Hammer said.
