Big Trout Are Biting in Sierra, Southland

Share

The big fish are showing up throughout Southern California and the Eastern Sierra.

At Big Bear Lake, Mark Lawlor of Long Beach caught a 14-pound 1-ounce rainbow trout, less than half a pound off the lake record set in 1941. Lawlor was fishing from shore on the north side near the dam, using an inflated nightcrawler.

At Anaheim Lake, Rodger C. Tibor of La Mirada caught a 22-pound 5-ounce 30-inch channel catfish--the largest since the lake reopened last month. Tibor was fishing with cut mackerel at the “bubble hole.”

Meanwhile, trout up to five pounds from Tim Alpers’ ranch are being caught from Inyo County waters in the Eastern Sierra.
