LOS ANGELES : Judge Orders Detectives to Accept Post-Riot Tasks

Share

A judge ordered 35 Los Angeles police detectives to comply with special post-riot assignments Wednesday, dissolving a restraining order that had kept the detectives working day shifts.

“In balancing the equities, the public safety and the public interest prevails over these few officers,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephen O’Neil said.

LAPD Deputy Chief Ron Frankel determined a few weeks ago that an increase in “major incidents” after the civil unrest required assigning extra manpower to night and weekend duty, particularly in the South Bureau.

The Los Angeles Police Protective League sued the city after Frankel tapped the 35 plainclothes detectives to work a special post-riot uniformed patrol detail.
