Vials of Blood Stolen; Some May Carry AIDS
Thieves broke into a Los Angeles medical lab and stole 2,000 vials of blood, including several that lab officials suspect were tainted with the AIDS virus and hepatitis, police said Wednesday.
Los Angeles Police Sgt. Alex Salazar said the vials were in two 40-gallon drums that employees at California Automated Laboratory in El Sereno said turned up missing Wednesday afternoon from a locked outdoor storage area.
Police said the thieves cut through a six-foot-high chain-link fence and ripped open a cage containing the drums, which were clearly marked “Infectious human waste” in English and Spanish.
