‘Reading and Arts’ Series of Lectures Continue to July 3

“Reading and the Arts of the Book,” a series of public lectures, panel discussions and demonstrations presented by the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities, will take place in Santa Monica and other locations through July 3.

The series includes 15 programs dealing with diverse areas of the book arts including illuminated manuscripts from the Middle Ages, contemporary artists’ books and the world of electronic imaging, discussed by an international group of scholars, artists and collectors.

Series highlights include artist Buzz Spector’s Tuesday afternoon presentation, “Torn Pages: Making Books Into Objects,” as well as programs on topics including “The Secret Life of the Modern Illustrated Book: 1875-1950,” “Fantasy, Empathy and Conflict in Picture Books for Young Children,” “The Book: Consciousness at Work,” “The Postmodern Book: The Artist as Producer” and “The Electric Book: Reading the Future.”
