If little boys still run away with the circus, the mothers of this town can sleep soundly. The circus and their kids are stuck in town, thanks to the nationwide rail freight shutdown.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus ended a two-day engagement here Wednesday but was unable to move its 47-car train to Jackson, Miss., for a performance tonight.

The strike also threatens engagements next week in Texas, the circus said. All equipment is packed and ready to go. Until the trains are ready to move, the circus animals will rest in stables at Lafayette’s Cajundome.
