Max Unger; Psychiatrist, Chief of Staff at VA Hospital

Max Unger, 87, a psychiatrist and retired chief of staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brentwood. His interest in veterans dated to his work at hospitals in Europe during World War II. After his discharge he established an adjustment clinic in Middletown, N.Y. while on the staff of the state hospital there. He joined the VA hospital in Sepulveda in 1961 and became chief of psychiatric services; he became chief of staff at the Brentwood facility in 1971, retiring in 1974. He also taught at UC Irvine and UCLA. In Los Angeles on Sunday.
