Seven Acquitted in Stock Exchange Corruption Trial: A jury has acquitted six former stock exchange officials and a lawyer of corruption charges, ending a five-year investigation into wrongdoing at the Hong Kong exchange. The acquittals followed the October, 1990, conviction of the exchange’s former chairman, Ronald Li. Li is serving a four-year sentence. The jury dismissed five corruption counts against the exchange’s former chief executive, Jeffrey Sun, 59, and former vice chairmen Kenneth Wong, 60; Joseph Ma, 54, and John Chung, 58. Vice chairmen Cham Siu-leun, 70, and Charles Sin, 55, were cleared of similar counts. The jury also acquitted Alfred Li, a lawyer who is Ronald Li’s son, of arranging to help the others accept shares from six companies in return for supporting the companies’ listing on the exchange.
