Warady Gains on Leader in Trans America Race
Huntington Beach’s David Warady moved closer to first place, retaining second place overall in the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace by finishing third in Monday’s stage from Glendale to Mesquite, Nev.
Warady, 35, finished the 36.95-mile stage in 6 hours 47 minutes 51 seconds and is now 9 minutes 15 seconds behind leader Helmut Schieke of Germany. Al Howie who had led the race for much of the first week, dropped out Sunday because of serious blisters on his feet.
Tom Rogozinski of Hagerstown, Md., who at 24 is the youngest competitor, won Monday’s stage in 5:28.01.
