County Sends 4 to Quake Site

San Diego County officials dispatched four building inspectors to the earthquake-ravaged, high desert community of Yucca Valley on Wednesday to assist in damage assessment in the wake of more than $92 million in property damage that the area has suffered since Sunday.

The four inspectors are expected to remain in Yucca Valley for three or four days, county officials said. They are Bill Elizarraras, Ray Fuller, Guy Dreusike and Paula Barca, all volunteers.

Chief Administrative Officer David Janssen said the four will assess structural damage, inspect ruptured gas lines and determine if it’s safe for residents to re-enter buildings damaged by either of Sunday’s earthquakes.

Janssen said that, after the 1989 earthquake that hit the San Francisco Bay Area, about 84 San Diego County specialists were dispatched to provide technical assistance.
