SIMI VALLEY : Mayoral Candidate Urges Ethics Pledge

Share

Simi Valley mayoral candidate Steve Frank on Tuesday called for his opponents in the race to sign an ethics pledge to ensure a clean, issues-oriented campaign.

“I don’t believe it serves the public well to participate in negative campaigning,” said Frank, a 45-year-old public affairs consultant. “This campaign is going to be about ideas, openness and developing programs for Simi Valley.”

Frank’s pledge calls for all candidates to refrain from personal attacks in speeches, television commercials and campaign literature. The pledge also calls for campaign mailers to be delivered to the media, the Simi Valley Elections Advisory Committee and opposing candidates 24 hours before distribution to the public.

Frank said he is not anticipating a mudslinging campaign. He said the ethics pledge is simply intended to set a positive tone for the campaign.

Mayor Greg Stratton, who has not announced his reelection bid but is expected to run, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Attorney Robert L. Plunkett, the only other mayoral candidate, said he thought that Frank was grandstanding with his ethics pledge.

Plunkett said he wants to see the pledge and possibly add some restrictions to it himself before signing.
