A man who fled from police after an undercover drug deal was arrested after a high-speed car chase through the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys ended when he crashed into a bridge abutment, authorities said Wednesday.

The 31-year-old man, whose name was not released, was arrested Tuesday about 9:20 p.m. after his car slammed into a concrete abutment on the Antelope Valley Freeway near the Sand Canyon Road exit, Los Angeles Police Detective Steve Miller said.

Police found two guns in the car and recovered a 2.2-pound package of cocaine that had been thrown out of the car during the chase, Miller said.

The chase began in Sun Valley about 8:30 p.m. when narcotics agents moved in to arrest two men who had been negotiating with undercover officers to sell them 11 pounds of cocaine, Miller said.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene, but the other man managed to get to his car and speed away.

The ensuing chase reached speeds of 100 m.p.h. and ended when the suspect tried to pass cars on the shoulder, lost control of his car and crashed.

He suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Miller said both men were being held on suspicion of selling cocaine, but he refused to name them because they had not been charged yet and an investigation is ongoing.
