Former star Tracy Austin will call Martina Navratilova as a witness in her personal injury lawsuit scheduled to begin Tuesday in Morristown, N.J. Attorneys have told the court that Navratilova will be called as an expert witness to explain how much money Austin could have earned if she hadn’t been injured in an automobile accident three years ago.
Austin’s right leg was broken and she suffered neck and back injuries. She sued Steven M. Reynolls in 1990, alleging that the injuries ended an otherwise promising comeback. Reynolls was the driver of the van that struck Austin’s car.
Austin had been away from pro tennis for about five years, nursing a bad back. In 1980, she became the youngest player to earn more than $1 million in prize money during a single year. She won the U.S. Open title twice.
