SIMI VALLEY : Youth Club Redesign May Be Considered

Share

Simi Valley officials and opponents of a proposed Boys & Girls Club have agreed to meet with the architect of the facility to discuss a possible redesign.

The Alamo Court Homeowners Assn. and Chatsworth-based CPC Enterprises, which owns the Park Plaza Office complex on Alamo Street adjacent to the club site, filed a lawsuit against the city in May in an attempt to stop the project. Also named in the suit are the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District and the Boys & Girls Club.

The City Council approved development of the $3.2-million Boys & Girls Club in April over the objections of CPC Enterprises. Opponents of the project are concerned that the height of the proposed one-story, 28-foot-high center will obstruct their northerly view of the Santa Susana Mountains.

City officials and attorney Matt Green, who is representing a homeowners group and a developer in the lawsuit, will meet with architect David Hopkins next week, officials said Friday.

A hearing date has been set for July 13 in Ventura County Superior Court. But Rebecca Merrell, club executive director, said all parties hope the dispute can be settled during next week’s meeting.
