A four-car accident late Thursday night on Interstate 805 near Interstate 15 left a Navy woman dead after her car flipped and threw her onto the freeway, where she was run over by a hit-and-run driver, authorities said.

The name of the 32-year-old woman was not released pending notification of relatives. She was on active duty in the Navy, the county medical examiner’s office said.

The crash took place at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. Heading north on I-805 near where it intersects with I-15, the Navy woman’s car crashed into the rear of a car driven by a 36-year-old San Diego man, the California Highway Patrol said. His name was not disclosed and he was not badly hurt, the CHP said.

Her car struck the center dividing wall and overturned, coming to rest in the fast lane of the freeway, the CHP said. A pickup heading north, driven by Brian Renner, 29, of San Diego rear-ended the overturned car, causing his car to flip, the CHP said.

Renner was not seriously hurt, the CHP said.

A fourth car arrived at the scene and ran over the Navy woman, who was lying on the pavement, the CHP said. That fourth car was gray, officers said.

The Navy woman was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital, the medical examiner’s office said.
