LOCAL NOTES : Warady Increases Overall Lead in Trans America

David Warady of Huntington Beach won Friday’s stage of the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace, completing the 52.3 miles from Beaver to Monroe, Utah, in 9 hours 46 minutes 54 seconds.

In winning his fifth stage, Warady increased his overall lead over Helmut Schieke of Germany to 4:46:59. Schieke was fourth in the stage in 11:44:31.

The 64-day, 3,000-mile race continues today with a 28.5-mile stage from Monroe to Salina, Utah.

Sandy Zubrin of the Mission Viejo Nadadores Dive Team won her second title in as many days, taking the girls’ 16-18 three-meter springboard in the Southern California Invitational at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Zubrin, who had won the one-meter title Thursday, finished with 396.90 points. Teammate Darcy Stuart was second with 382.15.

Other Nadadores taking titles were Summer Brown in the girls’ 14-15 three-meter springboard, and Erica Sorgi in the girls’ 11-and-under three-meter springboard. Tice Routson of Mission Viejo was third in the boys’ 16-18 one-meter springboard.
