A 70-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly threatening a police officer and two motel employees with a butcher knife.

Stephen Bobryk was reportedly involved in a rent dispute with the management of the Twin Cypress Motel, 393 S. Main St., when he allegedly threatened two employees with the knife, Police Sgt. Scott Staton said.

Police said the two employees fled the motel without injury. When confronted by a police officer, Bobryk allegedly charged an officer with the knife and yelled, “Shoot me!”

The officer backed away from the suspect, who then locked himself into the office of the motel that was later found to have been vandalized.

Less than half an hour later, the man emerged from the office without the knife and was arrested without injury, Staton said.

Bobryk was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon at a police officer and malicious mischief, and was taken to Orange County Jail.
