SAN DIEGO : Inmate Escapes From Work Detail
A 33-year-old San Diego man escaped Monday from a work detail just outside the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center, officials said.
Victor Lamar White, serving a 9-month, 25-day sentence for alien smuggling, was discovered missing from the detail about 1:45 p.m., officials said.
White was a minimum-security inmate and had no record of violence, officials said. He was scheduled for release Jan. 21, 1993. No other details were immediately available.
