David Warady of Huntington Beach continued to hold the lead after the 17th stage of the Runner’s World Trans-America Foot Race in Utah.

Warady ran the 29.7-mile stage of the race that stretched from Fremont Junction to a rest stop at Mile Post 114 in 5:19.23. Tom Rogocinski of Hagerstown, Md., won the stage in 4:12.56.

The course featured hilly terrain with the competitors running uphill for nine miles to the finish. The runners have completed 729.5 miles of the race.

Jim Faulkner, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Estancia High, is among 120 players competing in the Academic Betterment and Career Development Camp at UC Irvine’s Bren Center this week.

Faulkner averaged 12 points as a junior and helped Estancia reach the Southern California Division III regional finals. He was one of three juniors to earn Times’ all-county second-team honors.

Roberta Gehlke of Huntington Beach was named first-team All-American after the recent U.S. Volleyball Assn. Junior Olympics in Albuquerque, N.M. Gehlke, who will attend Mater Dei, played for the In Motion team in the 14-and-under competition.
