POWAY : 1 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-On Crash
A 19-year-old man remained hospitalized Tuesday after his pickup truck struck another car head-on, killing that driver and prompting a two-hour closure of California 67, authorities said.
Jason Soule of Poway was listed in serious but stable condition at Palomar Medical Center with unspecified injuries suffered in the accident shortly before 5 a.m. Monday that left Janet Lee Driggers dead.
The 37-year-old Ramona woman died at the scene, about 10 minutes after the crash on California 67 near Ellie Lane.
Soule’s northbound pickup crossed the center double yellow lines and struck Driggers’ southbound car head-on, sheriff’s and coroner’s officials said.
Sheriff’s Deputy Victoria Reden said California 67 was closed between 5:15 and 7:15 a.m.
Soule has not been charged in the case, which remains under investigation, Reden said Tuesday.
