Big West Committee to Recommend Farrell as the Next Commissioner
A selection committee will recommend Dennis Farrell as the next Big West Conference commissioner, a conference spokesperson said Tuesday.
Jacqueline Myrick, assistant information director, said the Big West Conference Council will vote on the recommendation at its July 30 meeting. The council consists of school presidents, athletic directors, senior women’s administrators and faculty representatives.
Farrell, the Big West’s associate commissioner who has been with the conference office since 1980, was the only candidate interviewed for the position, which became vacant when Jim Haney left recently to become executive director of the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches.
Farrell’s contract is still being negotiated, and the conference is expected to make an official announcement on his promotion in a few weeks.
“Hopefully, everything will come together,” Farrell said.
If approved, Farrell would become the fourth full-time commissioner in the conference’s 24-year history.
